Stoke makeover reflected in goalscoring charts

Muniesa, Wollscheid, Pieters, Afellay, Imbula, Arnautovic, Shaqiri, Diouf.

How times have changed at the Britannia - eight of their starting XI against Everton last weekend coming from outside the Home Nations, whose sole representatives were Jack Butland, Glen Johnson and Glenn Whelan.

Rewind just four seasons and the ratios were reversed: the Stoke team that started against Bolton in the final Premier League game of 2011/12 containing eight British players.

Mark Hughes has certainly remodelled the Potters and, surprisingly, they are the only Premier League team this season not to have an English goalscorer.

Further, three clubs - Newcastle, Swansea and Watford - have only one English goalscorer: Jamaal Lascelles, Jonjo Shelvey (when at Swansea; though he may soon add to Newcastle's homegrown quota) and Troy Deeney respectively.

At the other end of the scale are Premier League newboys Bournemouth, closely followed by title contenders Spurs. Eddie Howe's Cherries have already got nine Englishmen on the scoresheet, while Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Kieran Trippier, Tom Carroll, Eric Dier, Kyle Walker and Ryan Mason have all struck for Mauricio Pochettino's troops.

A quick look at which nationalities, other than those from the Home Nations, are most prolific confirms that the raft of classy Belgians in the top flight are a force to be reckoned with.

Romelu Lukaku is the division's second-highest goalscorer with 16 goals, but eleven of his countrymen have also hit the target this season. In fact, Belgians have scored a whopping 42 goals during the campaign so far, a feat only matched by Frenchmen - who have hit the same number thanks to the likes of Olivier Giroud, Dimitri Payet and Anthony Martial.

Perhaps surprisingly, the Belgians and the French are all outscored by England's top three hotshots: Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane and Jermaine Defoe having hit 43 goals between them.

In fact, England's Three Lions are only outgunned when you combine the very best of the rest: a 'Rest Of The World' trio of Lukaku, Sergio Aguero and Odion Ighalo beating the homegrown tally by two goals.

It all adds up to a very cosmopolitan affair and raises the question: can Glen Johnson rise to the challenge at the Britannia?
