Lewandowski's supporting cast is on fire

      Costa and 'Raumdeuter' are flying

Polish striker's wingmen are well amongst the goals

Mention goals and Bayern Munich in the same sentence and invariably you will hear Robert Lewandowski's name - yet the prolific No.9 is receiving admirable support from Thomas Muller and Douglas Costa.

Costa has made a real impact at the Allianz Arena since his summer move from Shakhtar Donetsk, while the rangy Muller - despite not being everyone's cup of tea - always features heavily for club and country.

Lewandowski is unsurprisingly Bayern's top scorer at the moment with 29 goals in all competitions, but 26-year-old Muller isn't too far back on 21. Brazilian Costa, meanwhile, has been flying on Bayern's left flank and has already contributed five times thus far during the current campaign.

Where Costa has really come into his own is in terms of bringing assists to the table, creating more goals for Bayern than any other player at the club this season. Muller is again heavily involved, however, his nine assists this term putting him second on the assists list.

In fact, Muller - who has coined the name 'Raumdeuter' or 'Space Explorer' to describe his playing style - is right up next to Lewandowski when you look at the Bayern players most involved in goals this season (i.e. the player with most combined goals and assists). Aided by his incredible five goals in nine minutes against Borussia Dortmund, Lewandowski tops the pile with 31 goals/assists...yet Muller only trails him by one with a combined total of 30.

Muller could have levelled with Lewandowski in the goals/assists category last night. Bayern beat VfL Bochum 3-0 in the quarter-finals of the German Cup and while 'The Raumdeuter' provided two assists, one apiece for Lewandowski and Thiago Alcantara, he blew a great chance to add to his own goal tally - seeing a first-half penalty saved by Bochum 'keeper Manuel Riemann.

Ten points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, Bayern will turn their attentions to the Champions League at the end of this month: a tricky away tie against last season's finalists Juventus lying in store on 23 February, after league games against Augsburg (A) and Darmstadt 98 (H).

Man City-bound Pep Guardiola is still to lift the Champions League trophy with Bayern, and the Spanish manager will know that Lewandowski, Costa and Muller staying fit and maintaining their form will be key to the German club achieving their aspirations this season.
