Are Juve of 15/16 the most dominant team ever?

Old Lady bags fifth straight Scudetto

A 24th victory in their last 25 games secured yet another Serie A title last weekend - making it five-in-a-row for the Old Lady.

Incredibly, this isn't the first time Juventus have managed the feat: the Italian giants also winning a quintet of back-to-back titles between 1930 and 1935.

This historic undertaking got the Footballzz team thinking about the most dominant forces in domestic competition across Europe...

Such domination of the English game has never been seen in terms of five consecutive titles, three-in-a-row the best that Huddersfield (1923-26), Arsenal (1932-1935), Liverpool (1981-1984) and Man Utd twice (1998 -2001 & 2006-2009) could muster.

Liverpool and Manchester United are unquestionably the two most dominant sides in the history of the English game, but neither has managed to go beyond the 'Three Timer' - although the Red Devils' 13 Premier League titles over 20 years or so cements them as the most dominant of any era.

Across Europe's 'Top Six' leagues

Real Madrid are the only side in Spain to win five consecutive league titles and, like Juventus, Los Blancos have nailed that feat twice with staggering runs in the '60s and '80s.

Barcelona, although widely considered to boast the greatest sides of the “noughties”, have only managed four on the bounce in their decorated history.

Much akin to the Premier League, the Bundesliga has never seen a side win more than three titles consecutively - although Bayern could re-write the record books this weekend and become the first German team to bag four straight. The German giant's 12 league titles over the past 20 years testifies to their huge domestic dominance - which may continue unless the likes of Borussia Dortmund rediscover their spark.

Other sides to hit the dizzy heights of “five in a row” are FC Porto, in the Portuguese Primeira Liga (1994-1999), Marseille in Ligue 1 (1988-1993) and Torino (in the '40s) and Inter (under Mourinho & Mancini) in Serie A.

7 in a row!

Lyon won seven consecutive titles from 2001 to 2008 under four different managers (Jacques Santini (1) Paul LeGuen (3), Gerrard Houllier (2) and Alain Perrin (1)) in a period of unrivalled domestic dominance. Time will tell if PSG can continue to stroll to similar success after tying up their fourth straight Ligue 1 title recently.

So, all the big boys are accounted for. However, it is tough to call which teams deserves the tag of 'Most Domestically Dominant' across the various eras and leagues.

Therefore, taking a large leaf out of Alan Hansen's book, we will sit on the fence and let you decide!
