Manchester United's winger Antony is set to rejoin training and will be eligible for team selection as he continues to cooperate with police investigations regarding allegations of violence and abuse over women.
The Brazilian international was removed from his national team's World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru earlier this month due to reports of alleged violence towards a former girlfriend that surfaced in the media.
Antony has completely denied these allegations and was granted a leave of absence by the Man Utd to defend himself.
Now, having returned to the United Kingdom, the club has determined that it's an appropriate time for him to resume playing. However, he won't be participating in training on Friday and won't be part of the line-up against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
A club statement read: “Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has cooperated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so.
“As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case.
“As a club we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
