Arsenal crash out of Champions League after Bayern defeat

Joshua Kimmich's powerful header proved decisive as Bayern Munich secured a 1-0 victory at the Allianz Arena in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final, sealing a 3-2 aggregate win and knocking Arsenal out of the competition.

The initial 20 minutes was a cagey one and scoring opportunities were scarce, but gradually the game began to open up.

In the 24th minute, David Raya thwarted Jamal Musiala's threatening attempt, while Bayern's Manuel Neuer was tested by Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli in quick succession.

Neuer also denied a header from Kai Havertz towards the end of the first half, but the cautious period ended without goals, as neither team took excessive risks.

The hosts emerged stronger in the second half, hitting the post twice within the opening minute through a header from Leon Goretzka and a powerful strike from Raphael Guerreiro.

Thomas Tuchel's men managed to take the lead in the 63rd minute when Kimmich netted a header from a Guerreiro cross.

Raya was forced into action late on to deny Musiala, with the Bavarians dominating the game in search of a second goal to seal the qualification.

However, the match ended without further drama, with Kimmich's decisive header securing Bayern's victory in the quarter-final second leg and their spot in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta's team will now shift their focus back to the Premier League, gearing up for a trip to Molineux on Saturday evening to face Wolves.
