Barcelona defender Dani Alves has dedicated his side’s 22nd La Liga title to manager Tito Vilanova and team-mate Eric Abidal.
The Catalan giants became league champions on Saturday night, thanks to Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Espanyol.
And the Brazil international dedicated the trophy to Vilanova, who underwent surgery in December after being diagnosed with cancer of the parotid gland for the second time, and to Abidal, who returned to action in April after having a liver transplant due to a tumour.
“Congratulations to all colleagues for the championship, especially those in the photo! This is for you Tito and Abi,” Alves said, via Twitter.
Meanwhile, Cesc Fabregas also took on the same social network to express his happiness with the title triumph.
“Today is a great day, the result of a brilliant season! I am really happy I can celebrate my first Liga title! £ForcaBarca £LigaBBVA,” he tweeted.
Iniesta, who celebrated his 29th birthday on Saturday, posted a picture of himself with a cake, on his Facebook page, and said: “The best gift, turned 29 and won the league... The reward for the work of the whole year!!”
