England's U20 World Cup squad for the tournament in Argentina this summer has been announced.

Among those named in the squad are Carney Chukwuemeka of Chelsea, Alex Scott who was named Championship Player of the Season, and Liam Delap of Manchester City.

However, four players picked by manager Ian Foster could miss the opening game due to play-off finals. Callum Doyle and Brooke Norton-Cuffy of Coventry City, currently on loan from Manchester City and Arsenal respectively, are hoping to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa loanee Aaron Ramsey currently on loan at Middlesbrough will take part in the play-offs, as is Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards who is set to face Sheffield Wednesday in the League One semi-final.

Foster, who has been in the role since last summer, will be looking to emulate Paul Simpson's success in leading England to triumph in the U20 World Cup in 2017.

However, the tournament is being overshadowed by controversy as some of the world's most talented young players will not be participating.

This is because FIFA chose to schedule the tournament outside the international window, which falls before the completion of most European domestic seasons. Consequently, clubs are not obliged to release their players to represent their countries in the tournament.

The tournament, which has featured footballing greats such as Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland in the past, will kick off on May 20 with some of the biggest stars missing.

The England squad is also missing key players such as Manchester City's Rico Lewis, Chelsea's Lewis Hall, Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Bynoe-Gittins and Juventus' Samuel Illung-Junior.

Other notable absentees include Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho (representing Argentina), Chelsea's Malo Gusto (representing France), and Brighton's Facundo Bounanotte (representing Argentina).

England's campaign will begin against Tunisia in Buenos Aires on May 22, followed by fixtures against Uruguay and Iraq in the group stage.
