Andres Iniesta has declared that Barcelona’s Copa del Rey triumph was the perfect way for Guardiola’s departure in his final match as manager of the team.
An effort from Lionel Messi and a double from Pedro crowned Barcelona with the 2011-12 Copa del Rey title, in Pep Guardiola’s final game at the helm of the team, and Iniesta labelled the victory as the “perfect” goodbye for the Catalan boss.
“Winning the cup was just the best possible way to end his time at the club,” he said to reporters.
“The first-half went very well and we got the cup which was what we wanted. Today we had to be on our game because playing Bilbao requires you to be a hundred percent and the team has done it again.”
“At times we were very good and the goals gave us peace of mind. he break between the end of the league and the cup final was good to deal with this game,” the 28-year-old midfielder concluded.
The Spain international is now expected to be called-up by Vicente del Bosque to represent his country at the Euro 2012, in Poland and Ukraine.
