Manchester City have recalled Dedryck Boyata from his loan at Eredivisie side FC Twente, while striker Luca Scappuzzi has joined Serie B side AS Varese on loan, until the end of the season.
Boyata also spent last season on loan with Bolton, but failed to help the Trotters to avoid relegation to the Championship.
"The Belgian defender could well continue his education at another club in the coming weeks having played just eight games for Steve McLaren's side," read a statement at the club's official website.
Meanwhile, Scapuzzi, 21, who has featured regularly for City's Elite Development Squad this season, will spend the second half of the term on loan in his native Italy, to try and help Varese to being promoted to Serie A.
