Russia levelled things up in Group B today, with Aleksei Miranchuk’s classy match-winner against Finland putting his side level on points with both Belgium and the Finns.
Finland looked set to continue their fine debut tournament start when Joel Pohjanpalo headed home, but the most marginal offside call the competition has seen denied his smartly placed shot.
Russia took impetus from the call, with classy midfield operators Aleksandr Golovin and Miranchuk putting on a show, combining to leave Magomed Ozdoyev with a big chance at the far post, which he directed high and wide.
Some sublime last-ditch tackles kept the game scoreless, before Miranchuck danced into the Finland box and curled home.
Russia then took full control of the game, and should have put it to bed, but some excellent work from Lukáš Hrádecký, as well as some poor Russian finishing, meant the match finished 1-0.
