Monaco sign West Ham defender on loan

Thilo Kehrer has signed for Ligue 1 side AS Monaco on a loan deal until the end of the season from Premier League club West Ham United.

The figures, as widely reported, are believed to involve a 500,000 euro loan fee with a potential mandatory purchase option of 11 million euros should certain, fairly easy playing time conditions be met.

The 27-year-old has been a regular in the West Ham squad this season but fallen behind both Angelo Ogbonna and Nayef Ageurd, as well as Kurt Zouma and Konstantinos Mavropanos, in the Hammers’ centre-back pecking order.

The former Schalke and PSG defender was a relatively key man for The Irons as they won last season’s UEFA Europa Conference League and he also helped Germany win the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Poland in 2017.

Internationally, Kehrer has earned 27 caps for Die Mannschaft and will hope his move too Ligue 1 will earn him more playing time as he eyes up a place in Julian Nagelsmann’s squad for when Germany host UEFA EURO 2024 this summer.

Under the management of former Borussia Monchengladbach boss Adi Hutter, Monaco are currently sitting third in Ligue 1 and seven points behind defending champions and league leaders, Paris Saint-Germain.
