Gus Poyet has confirmed he would be interested in replacing Paolo Di Canio in charge of Sunderland.
The former Brighton boss has has emerged as the favourite to take the helm at the Stadium of Light after Roberto Di Matteo seemed to have ruled himself out of the running.
"My opportunity to manage Sunderland is there. I'm waiting. Nervously," Poyet is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.
"Since the start of the season, I've dedicated myself to watching the games of teams that might call me if things weren't going too well."
Former Middlesbrough chief Steve McClaren, ex-Stoke boss Tony Pulis, and Championship managers Paul Ince, Sean Dyche and Gianfranco Zola have also been linked with the Sunderland job.
