Cauley Woodrow's last-minute header secured a crucial point for Luton Town in an unexpected 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, boosting their chances of avoiding relegation.
In an uneventful first 10 minutes, neither team seemed likely to break the deadlock, but a defensive error from Luton allowed Palace to take an early lead.
A careless back pass from Alfie Doughty provided Daniel Munoz with an opportunity, and after bypassing goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski, Munoz set up Jay Mateta, where he opened the scoring with an audacious flick
The first half lacked quality, and another defensive error from Luton towards the end nearly gave the hosts a second goal. Jordan Clark's hasty back pass unintentionally played Mateta through, but unlike Munoz, Mateta couldn't round Kaminski successfully, and his attempt from a tight angle hit the side netting.
The second half didn't bring much excitement for the visitors, as Palace maintained control in the game.
Mateta had a big opportunity to put the game to bed, meeting Tyrick Mitchell's cross from point-blank range, but Kaminski made a smart save with his feet.
Despite Luton needing a goal, they continued to withstand waves of Palace pressure, and Issa Kabore made a crucial last-ditch challenge to deny Mitchell at the end of the 90 minutes.
Even with six minutes of stoppage time, there was no relief for Luton. Substitute Odsonne Edouard struck the crossbar with a powerful effort from the edge of the area.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, Luton's sole noteworthy attack in the second half resulted in their equaliser. Cauley Woodrow's flick from Andros Townsend's delivery eluded everyone and found the bottom corner.
This result brings Luton within three points of safety, while Palace remain 14th placed, eight points from safety.
