Bayern Munich have found a replacement for the injured Manuel Neuer just one day before the resumption of the Bundesliga with the signing of Yann Sommer.
The Switzerland international had arrives from Borussia Mönchengladbach where he was a key player for Die Fohlen, having played 335 games since his arrival from Basel in 2014.
The 34-year-old Sommer has signed a two-and-half-year contract with the German champions keeping him at the club until 2025.
“I’m very excited about the new challenge at FC Bayern,” the goalkeeper said after joining the club. “It’s a big, powerful club. We’ve played against each other many times – I know the enormous quality and aura of this club. I’m proud that I’m now a part of FC Bayern. We have some big challenges ahead of us.
“I’m hugely looking forward to starting here with my new teammates, and to everything that is to come. I want to thank Borussia Mönchengladbach for eight and a half wonderful years and for enabling this transfer.”
Sommer is likely to be first choice at Bayern until the end of the season with Manuel Neuer ruled out for the rest of the campaign after breaking a leg skiing in December.
Bayern return to action on Friday night as they travel to face RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena.
